Copyright is a hot topic in librarianship and commerce. Knowing what copyright entails and how to deal with the most basic copyright situations in library can help you avoid common copyright mistakes. After finishing this course, you will be able to better understand what you read regarding copyright and make decisions that are based on solid baseline information, not rumor or possibly erroneous "common knowledge". This course is for 2 CE credits.

Outcomes:

Staff completing this course will be able to:

  1. Identify the 6 rights of a copyright holder.

  2. Name several ways copyright affects library service.

  3. Apply copyright fair-use tests to specific situations.

  4. Locate online and print resources on copyright.

This course addresses these issues and more in a web-based course designed to take about 2 hours to complete. It contains video and other multimedia elements that visually illustrate elements of copyright protection.

Assessment:

This course is self-directed and assessments are graded immediately upon completion.
